Blue Bay Bike Taxis are coming on nicely.

So exciting to be giving our Blue Bay bike taxis an initial try-out. There’s still a little work to go to finish them off but we’re almost there! These hop on / hop off taxis can take 2 -3 passengers at a time on a tour of the harbour, linking Mariners with the Bay Harbour Market. Payment will be on a tips based system. This is an initial 3 month pilot project aiming to spread the Blue Bay 2030 message: plastic recycling and respect for the environment while creating income generating opportunities for some fit Hout Bayers who want to share their love of the bay. If you’re interested in getting involved as a bike operator, please contact Craig Dunlop at Hout Bay Yacht Club. Introducing our New Logo

Thank you to Kim Watermayer, A Cape Town Artist and Graphic Designer. Kim used the elements from the Winning Logo designed by Nangamso Booi and added attributes of the top three logos chosen to create a wonderful identity.

Please contact us to get involved with any of the amazing projects we are working on. We accept donations and are soon to run some fun fund raising events.

Do you know your recycle symbol?

Which plastic can I recycle? Is there a valuable plastic? Must I wash my plastic? Who buys plastic?

Answers to these and more questions need to be found, learned and repeated. The following are links you may find helpful. Blue Bay 2030 will continue to find valuable resources to help share the information.

PETCO , the PET Recycling Company, is a company that takes Extended Producer Responsibility (in the industry, we call it EPR) for the end-of-life solution for the PET bottle sector on a collaborative basis, both financially and operationally.

Plastics SA has a huge responsibility to encourage packaging producers to reduce single use plastic and to redesign Packaging to reduce waste generated.

Visit www.plasticsinfo.co.za for detailed information on what is currently being recycled.

Logo Competition to Find our identity

THE LOGO WINNER: NANGAMSO BOOI

I am passionate about the environment and most of our summer days are shared on Hout Bay beach. I believe Hout Bay will reach Blue Flag status by 2030, we just need to pull our weight as a community and do our bit”.

Nangamso Booi

THE LOGO ENTRIES

Call to entries on the 17 May 2021 were published on social media platforms and shared via personal WhatsApp message to every one we knew, with no existing support base we needed to rely on friends, family and colleagues to share the message as widely as they could.

A total of 21 entries were submitted to a 9 person judging panel who voted for their top 10 and a winner emerged. The Entrants were a diverse group of people who’s main criteria was that they believed this goal of Blue Flag status is attainable by 2030. Submissions included sketches, paintings, graphic images and logos each representing the abilities and vision of the creating artist.

The top 10 Nominees were informed on the 9 June and the winners announced at the Rethinking Plastic presentation at the HBYC. All entries were on display and spot prizes were awarded and every entrant received a token of gratitude for taking part.

The first prize winner received R1000, R1000 was shared to the remaining top 10 nominees.

The top 3 submitted works of art Have been combined to create our new identity. Collaboration, Inclusivity, Sustainability are the core values of Blue Bay 2030 and the competition supported this vision.
